2023 Trend #1: Object storage as primary storage
The adoption of the AWS S3 API across the storage industry for data access and management is increasing at a rapid rate and has become the industry’s de facto standard for cloud storage. Traditionally, where file-sharing protocols such as NFS and SMB have been used, of late, the flexibility, scale, and management capabilities of the S3 API have led to implementations across all industry solutions. S3 allows for the management of data to be tied more closely to that of the application, which was always a challenge with NFS and SMB. However, it’s this very need that is pushing Cloud\Object storage past the archive use case and into primary storage for many workloads.
2023 Trend #2: Review your ransomware protection
The threat of ransomware is very real for every organization, of every size, in every industry, with data to store, protect, and access. Seeking to minimize the impacts of ransomware, regulators and insurers now require proactive protection measures such as data immutability. Reviewing your ransomware protection strategy should be at the top of everyone’s list of priorities for 2023.
2023 Trend #3: Achieving data storage carbon neutrality
Data storage devices consume a significant proportion of your data center’s energy. Thus, with the increasing focus on carbon neutrality, new regulations are pushing the need to control data (and therefore carbon) consumption. We discuss how best to manage data in this environmentally conscious era.
2023 Trend #4: The era of the S3-based Data Lakehouse has begun
The Data Lakehouse architecture, where one massive namespace is available for all applications and users to access the data, is quickly becoming more commonplace.
