Neil Stobart

Chief Technology Officer, Cloudian

As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Cloudian Inc., Neil Stobart is responsible for leading the company’s technology strategy to address customers pain points in managing data at extreme levels of scalability, resiliency and data distribution. His role encompasses educating customers, partners, and the press about the benefits and applications of cloud storage technologies, as well as ensuring technical due diligence during sales and deployment processes. With a keen focus on helping organizations optimize their data storage strategies, Stobart plays a critical role in Cloudian's global expansion and technological innovation. He is also driving the strategy and landscape of Cloudian's AI offering which creates a unified platform that eliminates storage complexity while meeting the high-performance demands of modern AI workloads.

With early 30 years of experience in developing technical storage and systems architecture solutions, Stobart has established himself as a thought leader in the enterprise storage industry. His expertise spans multiple areas, including Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), object storage, business continuity, disaster recovery, backup, storage networking, capacity planning, and performance analysis. Additionally, he has deep knowledge of cloud computing, open systems computing, thin client solutions, data networking, and application infrastructure design. His extensive background in these technologies enables him to provide strategic guidance on best practices and cost-effective approaches to data storage technology deployment.

Stobart has held senior consulting and leadership positions at several major technology companies, where he worked closely with some of the world’s largest organizations to develop and implement data storage solutions. He began his career as an IT Analyst at Woolwich Building Society in 1996 before moving into a leadership role as a Storage Practice Manager at Morse Group in 1999. In 2002, he joined MaXXan as a Sales Engineer, where he contributed to the development and deployment of intelligent SAN solutions.

His expertise in enterprise storage led him to Hitachi Data Systems in 2005, where he worked as a Solutions Consultant, advising businesses on implementing robust data storage architectures. He then transitioned to Compellent in 2007, taking on the role of International Technical Director, where he played a key role in driving the company's international growth and educating customers on advanced storage solutions. Following Dell's acquisition of Compellent in 2011, Stobart became Sales Engineering Director at Dell, where he continued to lead technical sales initiatives and drive adoption of Dell’s storage technologies across global markets.

In 2014, he joined Nexenta as EMEA SE Director, where he spearheaded the company’s software-defined storage initiatives in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. His tenure at Nexenta reinforced his position as a leader in software-defined storage and cloud-based data management solutions.

Stobart’s journey with Cloudian began in 2015, initially serving as EMEA Technical Director. He later took on the role of Global Technical Director, overseeing the company’s technical sales strategy and customer engagement worldwide. His contributions to Cloudian’s growth and success culminated in his promotion to Chief Technology Officer (CTO), where he now leads the company’s technical vision and innovation efforts, including spearheading AI initiatives that enhance automation and intelligence in cloud storage solutions.

A strong advocate for education and knowledge sharing, Stobart is frequently invited to speak at industry events, where he shares insights on cloud storage, data management best practices, and the future of enterprise storage technologies. His ability to bridge the gap between technical complexity and business strategy makes him a trusted advisor for organizations navigating the evolving landscape of cloud-based storage solutions.
Stobart holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Applied Economics from the University of Hertfordshire. His academic background in economics, combined with his technical expertise, gives him a unique perspective on the financial and operational considerations of enterprise storage investments.
