KT cloud CloudianThis case study highlights KT Cloud’s strategic decision to incorporate Cloudian’s AI Data Lake on Lenovo servers into their cloud storage portfolio, driving significant business outcomes and setting a precedent for future cloud computing capabilities.

KT Corporation, formerly Korea Telecom, is South Korea’s first telecommunications company, serving virtually all the country’s land line subscribers plus a substantial share of the country’s wireless and internet users. KT Cloud, a business unit of KT, is the top cloud service provider in Korea, providing cloud computing services to businesses, including infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), and software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions.

Need for a Scalable Data Platform

With a mission to serve a diverse clientele, including enterprise and government agencies, KT Cloud faced challenges with their previous storage solutions provided by Zadara, Swift, and Hitachi. These systems were not aligned with KT Cloud’s ambition to scale services and meet ambitious performance and feature requirements.

Cloudian AI Data Lake Meets the Need

  • Multi-tenancy
  • Quality of Service controls
  • Integrated service provider billing
  • Industry’s highest S3 compatibility
  • Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) support
  • Military-grade security

In alliance with Lenovo, KT Cloud leveraged the robust Lenovo SR650 v2 server for cloud deployments, with Cloudian distinctly outperforming Scality on this platform.

Successful Business Outcome

A two-month proof of concept cemented the partnership, leading to an initial deployment in April 2024. Cloudian’s AI Data Lake is now pivotal to KT Cloud’s storage services, enhancing their ITaaS, CSP offerings, On-Prem Cloud, and Government Private Cloud Service. Beyond these, expansion into other KT business-to-business divisions is projected to generate further growth.

Future Growth Planned

KT Cloud’s strategic partnership with Cloudian and Lenovo is not just a leap towards modernizing infrastructure but also a commitment to future-proofing their cloud services against evolving demands. The synergy between Lenovo’s servers and Cloudian’s storage solutions promises scalability, performance, and security—essential for KT Cloud’s trajectory towards being a cloud powerhouse.

This case study illustrates how Cloudian AI Data Lake’s integration can transform a cloud service provider’s storage capabilities, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance, and setting a standard for future cloud storage solutions in the enterprise space.
